Story
of Bali, Indonesia
These
are simple linear motifs, sometimes with tendrils and
hooks, as well as stylized leaf and flower motifs. The
most beautiful style amongst the parang patterns is
the so-called parang rusak pattern. Only persons of
princely rank were allowed to wear it. But not only
for this reason does it deserve to be called a princely
pattern: from an aesthetic point of view, too, this
pattern is by far the most beautiful example of batik
work executed at the princely courts of central .Java.
In
Wajang Wong the comedy only slightly embroiders the
solemn dance of the main characters, and is provided
chiefly by the antics of the animals; deer, bird, and
above all monkeys.
In the marvellous Wajang Wong in the palace of the Sultan
in Djokja (Java) a host of elaborately comic animals
fight on the demon side--elephant, wild boar, snake,
and tiger. The smaller ones gambol most engagingly,
the larger species are huge bamboo structures, carried
over a man's shoulders, very awkward opponents for the
heroes
